While New Jersey can experience very cold winters, summer can be incredibly hot and humid. A working air conditioning system is vital to helping you deal with those high temperatures and remain safe and comfortable in your home. Of course, if your AC system is not working correctly, you’ll need to take steps to remedy the situation. Here are some of the most common signs that you need to consider air conditioning repair.
1. Doesn’t Blow Cold
When your home’s air conditioner kicks in, it should blow cooled air throughout the home. However, if you’ve noticed that the air blowing from the vents is not all that cool, it could be a sign of a problem. It might just be very, very hot outside, but it could also be an issue with the refrigerant in your system.
2. Airflow Is Limited
When the AC turns on, you should be able to feel the air blowing from the vents – the volume of airflow should be consistent from year to year. If you notice that there’s a definite reduction in the volume of air blowing out of your vents, it could indicate a problem. It might be something as simple as a clogged filter, but it could also be something more serious that will require air conditioning repair.
3. Thermostat Doesn’t Seem to Work
When you set the thermostat, you should be able to stay comfortable despite the climbing mercury. However, if you’ve noticed that you keep having to drop the thermostat’s temperature to stay comfortable, it’s a sign that you need to have some work done, up to and possibly including having the thermostat replaced.
4. Increasing Costs
Your AC system is the single largest source of electricity use in your home. However, if you notice that your energy costs just keep climbing, and they’re higher than usual without a corresponding increase in outdoor heat, it could be a sign that there’s a problem.
5. Turns On and Off Frequently
Finally, if your air conditioner turns off and on frequently, it’s a sign that there’s an issue with the unit. Frequent cycling is a sign of overheating.
